About Us
Health Choice, LLC is one of the Mid-South's leading managed health care organizations,
serving the needs of more than 518,000 health plan members through contracts with
over 100 employers, insurance companies and TPA's. Organized in 1985, this highly
successful joint venture between MetroCare Physicians and Methodist Healthcare now
provides one of the most comprehensive networks of hospitals, physicians, outpatient facilities, affiliated health care professionals and ancillary services in the Mid-South.
Health Choice also offers technology solutions and support services in support of
its mission to transform the healthcare delivery system in the Mid-South.
MetroCare Physicians is an independent practice association (IPA) based in Memphis,
Tennessee and includes physician members located in West Tennessee, Arkansas, Mississippi
and Missouri. MetroCare currently has more than 1,250 physician members representing
44 of the major specialties recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties
and contracts with 250 additional healthcare professionals including podiatrists,
psychologists and licensed clinical social workers. MetroCare was organized in 1983
by a group of 80 physicians practicing in Shelby County. This initial group of physicians
shared a vision of providing high quality, cost-effective medical care to the employees
of communities throughout the Mid-South. Since then, Metro Care has grown to become
one of the country's largest IPA's. Through Health Choice, LLC, MetroCare provides
the physician panel representation for more than 100 different employers, insurance
companies and HMO's. From its initial formation, MetroCare has always adhered to
rigorous standards of professional credentialing and continuing education for its
members.
Methodist Healthcare is a healthcare delivery system based in Memphis, Tennessee,
serving the communities of Eastern Arkansas, West Tennessee and North Mississippi,
Methodist Healthcare operates seven hospitals and a home health agency with more
than 10,200 associates and 1,800 licensed beds. Methodist Hospital was founded in
1918 from the dream of John M. Sherard, a successful, idealistic North Mississippi
farmer and dedicated United Methodist layperson. Sherard first envisioned a Methodist
Hospital of Memphis in 1889 and was instrumental in organizing the first meeting
of the Board of Trustees on February 7, 1911. Since then, Methodist Healthcare has
grown to become the country's second largest private, not-for-profit hospital.
